the story

Siddhartha grew up in a golden palace where every wall hid sickness, age and sadness. One day he rode out beyond the gates and saw an old man, a sick man, and a funeral — then a calm wandering seeker. Those four sights changed everything: at 29, he quietly left the palace to search for answers.

He studied with teachers, starved himself, and tried every method — and none brought peace. So he sat beneath a bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya and said, 'I will not rise until I understand.' There, at last, he awakened — and became the Buddha, the awakened one.

His first sermon in the deer park at Sarnath taught the Middle Way: neither greedy nor harsh, a path of balance and kindness. He spent 45 years walking from village to village, teaching that suffering can end — with wisdom, care, and a still mind.
