the story

The legend says Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva who hears the world's cries, wept so many tears of compassion that they formed a lake. From its lotus stepped Tara, 'the star', who promised to help beings faster than the wind — because kindness should never be slow.

Tara has 21 forms. The two best loved are Green Tara, who springs into action, and White Tara, who brings long life and gentle peace. Green Tara sits with one foot off her lotus seat — ready to hop down the moment anyone calls for help.

Travellers crossing Himalayan mountain paths have chanted her mantra for a thousand years before a journey. Mothers whisper it for their children; climbers whisper it at sunrise. Tara is the friend you call when the path looks too steep.
