Her story and significance
On the fourth day comes Kushmanda. In one devotional telling, her smile brings light into a dark universe. This is a sacred image, not a science lesson about how the sun was made. Families remember her as a source of warmth and life.
Artists often show Kushmanda shining like the sun, with many hands holding sacred objects. Her name is traditionally connected to the cosmic egg: a way of imagining the whole universe beginning. Her brightness is a reminder that a little light can change how a dark room feels.
A child can share warmth in small ways: a smile at someone new, a kind word to a sibling, or a hand offered to a friend. These acts do not create a sun, of course. But they can make an ordinary day brighter.
A little prayer
ॐ देवी कूष्माण्डायै नमः॥
Om Devi Kushmandayai Namah
I bow to Kushmanda, whose light is celebrated by families.
A traditional short name mantra, not a verse from the Devi Mahatmya. Audio is not available for this prayer.
