Her story and significance
The ninth form is Siddhidatri. Siddhi can mean accomplishment or spiritual ability, and datri means giver. In sacred stories she grants special abilities to gods and devoted seekers. For a little child, we can think about gifts of learning and the joy of growing wiser.
She is often pictured seated on a lotus, offering blessings. Some depictions place her on a lion. The lotus grows from water and opens to the light. By day nine, families have spent many evenings remembering different ways the goddess is loved: as a steady daughter, a patient seeker, a caring mother, and a brave protector.
At the end of the nine nights, we can say thank you: to someone who taught us, someone who held our hand, and someone who helped us try again. The festival may be ending, but what we learned about kindness can stay with us.
